look at this very professional drawing I made...

if you cut out just a hole, the metal sheet may swing when the fan is mounted.(left drawing)
if you just cut out the grayed "windows", the sheet is a bit more stable.
and when you place them in the same postion where your fan has them, they won't do anything to the fan's airflow. (avoids noise, too) ;)

you can use a felt pen with a fine tip to draw the inner and outer shape of the fan on the metal, makes it a bit easier to cut it out.

Today we attached the new front plate to the case and it came out looking pretty good! :D

Now we just have to cut out the fan hole and the rear I/O plate. :) We are also going to make a side panel window at some later point.

Nice work, looks good so far.
But...it would've been easier to cut the hole first and then mount the plate... ;)

Yeah if I would have used a saw it would have been easier to cut it before I mounted it ;) but I think that I am going to use a Dremel or a hole saw :)

fantastic job mounting the panel, that looks factory! to the untrained eye they would be none the wiser, in fact even the trained eye would struggle to tell that's not standard!

Good idea using studs instead of screws.

Imo it is both good and bad to use rivits. It looks nice but you can not remove the panel easily :)

Opinions on how this looks? I think that it kind of fits in but the black on the fan controller is not exactly the same as the black plastic of the case :/ But the silver on the controller fits nicely with the silver on the HP emblem and that makes it not look out of place.
